Up to the Dates

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Lots of news and things. This weekend, I”m featuring in Madison, WI with my good buddy Frank Roche. We had the college night show with some great Chicago guests last night, it was a blast. I’ll be there tonight and tomorrow, having fun trying all kinds of crazy pizza slices from Ian’s on State Street. Last night, Ashlee and I were slayed by a Mac and Cheese/Chilli Cheese Frito Pizza combo. Twas a delight.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of working with two awesome comics, Bobcat Goldthwait and Christopher Titus. They both were real gents and gave me some great advice. The Improv is such a fun place to work, I want to work them all.

We’re finalizing the date for the DVD taping, it looks like it’s gonna be Oct. 21st, which is a Wednesday. Trying to come up with a title, some ideas for extra stuff for the DVD, and cool ways to promote the show.

I’m also working on producing a new show with my good friends Pablo Rodriguez and Pat Chase. The show is called Cheapshots and it’s going to be at Murphy’s Pub in Forest Park, IL. It’ll be a monthly showcase at an awesome place with a lot of great comics involved.  Stay tuned.

Maybe I’ll Be On Comedy Central Again!

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Here’s my new clip for the “Open Mic Challenge 3″ Jokes.com contest.

I’m performing at Watra on 48th and Pulaski this Friday at 9pm and possibly another place downtown on Friday, too. Sunday I’m hosting the 3rd round of Last Loco Standing, where some hilarious comics are left competing for $500. It starts at 8pm, so come see Joe Red, Lucky Luciano, Chris Paladino, Miguel “Big Mig” Mancha, Jody Serafin, and Martin Gollogly do the funny.

Finally, here’s a picture of the Cobra Commander action figure I bought from the new GI JOE movie. The movie was amazing:  crazy action, ridiculous storylines and plot twists, and nonstop cheese.  Pretty much everything I incorporated into playing with my GI JOEs when I was 7. Or 15. It was one age or the other. Maybe it’s 23 since I just bought this toy.

Ready, Set, Showtime.

Friday, August 7th, 2009

Tonight and tomorrow night at 8pm and 10pm I’ll be at the brand new comedy club in Crestwood, IL called SHOWTIME. It’s a really nice place and hopefully it’ll be packed. We’ve gotta compete with the Crestwood Fest where a few members of the band ASIA are playing this weekend, but besides that, we’re golden.

I’m also at Ashbary’s Coffee House tonight AFTER Showtime at around midnight with the Hot Cup of Comedy gang, as well as tomorrow BEFORE Showtime at around 7pm. 6 shows, 2 days, lots of drinks.

Sunday night Last Loco Standing 2009 starts and I’m hosting this thing with 11 other hilarious Chicago comics competing for the title and some money. It’s every Sunday night in August at 8pm at Joe’s on Weed St. downtown.

Last night I had a show in Spring Lake Michigan at a Holiday Inn. It was a blast. Some people got some shirts which is always nice, and there were lots of drunken Michigannies slurring their speech to me before, during, and after the show.

Last thing, there’s a great show going on in Frankfort, IL on Wednesdays in August, ticket sales go to charity and they’ve got good comics up every week. I’m on there August 19th, so stop by and say hello.

Busy busy busy.

Saint Louis Missouri Was Glorious

Monday, July 27th, 2009

My show in St. Louis this past Friday was a great time. Post Sports Bar and Grill hosted, and they couldn’t have been nicer about it. My friends and I got to do free ShotBong shots all night, and I slept in my car in a grocery store parking lot. My friend Dan made sure to wake up and puke in the parking lot in the middle of the night, an action that completed a grand trip to Missouri.

Saturday I was in Oconomowoc, WI for a quick show and wooed the crowd with a few tickles. Then I went to the 4th annual Pulak Luau in beautiful Crestwood Estates. The weekend was a lot of driving and tons of fun.

I finished the first season of Breaking Bad on Sunday, which is so so good. Everyone needs to watch this show and feel better about their own lives. I can’t wait to see the 2nd season, which goddamnitly was taken off of on demand recently, and is not on DVD yet. Comcast jerks.

Busy week:  tonight, Hungry Brain and Endangered Comics @ the Zoo. Thursday, Tavern Off the Fox in Aurora, IL. Friday, Lakeshore Theater with BigDogEatChild. Saturday, Nobody Dances Here Podcast. Sunday, short set at The Spot with Josh Alton and friends.

You Me Them Everybody Podcast

Friday, July 17th, 2009

I recorded this podcast with Brandon Wetherbee the other day, give it a listen. The show is great, and there are some other really great episodes of the podcast on his website YouMeThemEverybody. Be sure to check them out. I’m trying to get my own podcast started soon, maybe two different shows. Could be lots of fun.

I’m headed to Springfield this weekend for my cousin’s wedding, but I don’t really have a free weekend between now and November with shows and things, so be sure to check my calendar if you want to see some stuff.

Here’s a pic from the 4th of July with my brothers looking unknowingly patriotic.

Was I On Comedy Central? Apparently! And this…

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

Judging by the comments of three people on Facebook, supposedly I was on Comedy Central this past Sunday July 5th around 12:45pm! I didn’t see it, so I hope it’s true. I’ll probably never really know, but the idea of it gives me hope-boners.

I went to Chatanooga this past weekend for the 4th and had a blast with my brothers. We got completely and expensively shit-faced at a great restaurant and saw a very low-key fireworks show.

And when I got back, this hilarious little video that I helped make was edited and ready for the internet. Give some love to the Multi-Purpose Kitchen Tool:

Maaakin’ My Maaahk in Bauston

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Just got back from visiting Boston, had a blast. Lot’s of great sights and sounds. Food was boss, and so was drink. Stayed at a creepy hotel called Lord Wakefield’s. Did an open mic at said hotel. Had the worst Chinese Food of all time. Slept in an airport for five hours waiting for a rental car place to open. Stared down a creepy soldier statue. Ate shrimp after shrimp after shrimp. Had some terrible rootbeer at Borders. Loved the carts with the words “Fried Dough” plastered to them, but didn’t eat any. Climbed a tree. Watched a clown juggle on a tightrope in the Quincy Marketplace. Bought a new brown suit. Attended an Italian wedding. Performed at the Comedy Studio. Here are some pictures of all these things.

The Wonderful Adventures of Budd

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

Be sure to check out the new edition of SHARP ALPHABET over in the comics section. It’s all new for the month of June, and all in new colors.

So I stumbled upon this great little blog while sifting through my google search results, and I couldn’t have been more excited. It’s a blog about the life of a guy named Budd Denson, who has some amazing stories to tell.

His first name is one letter off from my last name, so naturally, I was intrigued. Check out his site to peruse his details on making a profit from fire ants:

“I am now offering free to a good home purebred, suitable for breeding purposes, very prolific, quality mound building fire ants. They make great gifts for Yankees.”

Be sure to check out his blog on home protection, as well:

I’ve got several handguns but when things go bump I reach for a shotgun.”

Like Budd, I too hate when things go bump. Whenever I hear something go bump, I immedately want to blast away at it with a shotgun. When something bumps, you know it means business.

Last, this blogger switches it up every now and then with a little fiction, but doesn’t use titles or headers of any kind to identify the text as such, thus making a random daily entry stand out as a vibrantly as a rich, premium channel drama like True Blood:

Budd pleasantly walks in smiles and very nicely says to the nurses Hello how are you? Suddenly fangs and claws appear and Budd is being attacked he fights for his life,he can’t just fight his way to freedom he must save the patient.”

So be sure to check out my buddy Budd and follow his adventures. I know I will.

After all, I’m always looking for new bits.

Half Hour Performances Galore

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Hey, since I’m taping a half hour DVD on July 11th with my good friend Anthony Sarfino, we’re practicing our longer sets frequently in the months leading up to it at places like Cigars and Stripes in Berwyn, IL.

We’ll be making some special features for the DVDs along the way, and we’ll have the discs for sale probably towards the end of the summer. It sucks talking about the end of the summer when it’s not even here yet, but gotta think ahead!

Tonight I’ve got some standup in Country Club Hills, IL at Pros Sports Bar and Grill.

Tomorrow night I’m at the Charly Horse in New Lenox, IL doing some comedy right off of Route 30.

Next Tuesday I’m doing my friend Joe Anderson’s radio show “Haters to the Left” for DePaul University downtown. That’ll be a blast from 9pm-Midnight.

My calendar is pretty full for the summer and fall, and I’ve got weddings in Springfield, IL, Boston, MA, and San Francisco, CA to go to every summer month. Busy busy busy.

Come see a show or two!
