New Alphabet, Now in Color!

Sharp Alphabet has come to an end…IN BLACK AND WHITE!

Starting this Sunday February 1st, I’m starting the alphabet over and adding beautiful colors. Now you’ll be able to tell just who exactly is bleeding, crying, or peeing. Thanks to my trusty red, blue, and yellow markers. And others!

Some ideas I had for last month needed some color to really work, so I’ll have those up this month. Here are some notes about my first month doing Sharp Alphabet:

  • Some were good, some were bad. My favorite comic was the Morgan Freeman one, which by itself kind of gave me the idea to try to do a new letter everyday. Letter X was the absolute worst. It’s hard to think of things that begin with X, so I’ll try harder later.
  • Towards the end of the month, I was having to do like four comics a day to catch up. I’ll try to have like three comics made in advance in Feb. so I never get behind!
  • I’m glad people like/dislike the comics! Please let me know if you think one is funny, or if you think one is terrible. Either way you’re looking at my website and that’s what this is all about.

On another note, my last shows at Fox’s on Wolf in Mokena, IL are this weekend. Standup on Friday night at 10pm featuring Pat Chase, Mike Von, and Anthony Sarfino. Variety Show on Saturday night at 8pm featuring some standup/sketch, some magic, and some singing. Feel free to check them out, they’re free!

One month in ‘09 is almost over. I need to learn how to make time slow down.

My New Comic “Sharp Alphabet”

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

Hey all Happy New Year! ‘09 looks like it could be fun. I’m starting out the new year with this new comic I’ve been working on called Sharp Alphabet. Basically, every day for 26 days I’ll have a new comic posted with a new letter for that day. I’m starting with A, so the first comic goes “A is for anal” and then there’s a joke about the word anal. “B is for bald” goes with a joke about being bald, and so on. It’s quite simple. And I wanted to keep it extra simple by drawing the comics with a sharpie and having everything look minimal. It’s not rocket science. I’m no Will Eisner. I can’t really draw. So enjoy my sad sketches and the weird situations going on in each new comic. That’s the point. I hope you’ll check back everyday to see what the new letter brings to the table and I hope that you’ll spread the word through all the networking outlets.

Couple notes about the comics:  They’ll be posted each day. I threw four up there to start out, so I’m covered until Sunday the 4th. But on Monday the 5th, check back for a new one! If you want to tell people about it, it’s just www.ryanbudds.com/comics. I’d appreciate it. Emailing that link to a friend or family member would be awesome of you! My late Christmas present from you. Thanks. You can enlarge each comic by clicking on it. Very easy stuff. Finally, let me know if you’d like to throw a comic on your site, I’d be more than happy to spread the crazy. Thanks and Happy New Year!

IMPROV, Indy 4, Comics, Usher, and Virals

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

I just had a great weekend at the Chicago Improv in Schaumburg, IL emceeing with the hilarious Blaine Capatch and Greg Behrendt.

They were both incredibly nice guys and we had an awesome weekend of shows. At one point during the last show, I asked the crowd, “What’s everyone doing after the show,” to which a very special lady in the front row replied, “YOU!” I had no idea what to say and just laughed with everybody else for a bit. It’s always fun to be caught off guard when you’re least expecting it.

We saw Indiana Jones this weekend before the last show, too. It was…interesting. A little too out there for my Indy taste but it was entertaining. Some good trailers were before the movie, including a much more explanatory one for Hancock. It shows that he’s like a cocky superhero, which I thought Will Smith kind of already was. After all, he makes “this suit look good,” in like every movie.

I’ve been reading a ton of comics lately, mostly Batman. I read Volume One of Hush and a ton of other short collections. I’m working on Alan Moore’s The Watchmen right now, so I’m caught up for when the awesome looking movie comes out sometime in the near future.

My mom asked me what I thought of her wearing some sort of Usher fragrance she ripped out of a magazine the other day. I don’t really know what I think of it. Why is Usher all up on my mom?

I’m going to be hopefully getting some viral videos up and running on YouTube and here soon. I have a web series I’m working on with my pal Steve Nelson and it should be glorious. Stay tuned.
